The Social Security Administration (SSA) has issued an important alert: some Social Security and SSI beneficiaries may see their payments suspended beginning June 2025.
Why? The agency is tightening enforcement on eligibility requirements and following up on unverified income, assets, and living situation updates. Letters are being sent out to individuals whose records may be incomplete or inconsistent.
According to SSA, common reasons for suspension include:
- Failing to respond to verification mail
- Exceeding income or asset limits for SSI
- Not reporting changes in household or marital status
- Missing an in-person or online re-certification appointment
⚠️ “A surprising number of people miss these notices,” said one SSA representative. “We’re encouraging all beneficiaries to log into their My Social Security accounts or visit a local office if unsure.”
If you’ve moved recently, missed a letter, or haven’t updated your records, now is the time to take action. Otherwise, your June payment could be delayed or stopped altogether.
To avoid disruption:
- Check your mail and SSA account
- Contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213
- Complete any pending verifications
